Artist Statement: This rendition of Carmen was inspired by vintage circuses. What drew the design to this concept was Carmen's free spirt and her lust for adventure, which parallels the flying freedom of an aerialist. The song "The Love of a Rebellious Bird" particularly stood out among the rest. Wanting to harbor the feeling of freedom among the set, with inspiration through the song, lead to the motif of flying birds among the scenery. In contrast, the loaming feeling of capture is portrayed through shadow play among the opera.
